The 38th Yallingup Malibu was held in pristine conditions at Yallingup main break on the weekend, with perfect head high waves from a new ground swell poured through on both days.
Hosted by the Indian Ocean Longboard Club the contest goes from strength to strength every year.
Club president Ray Holden was stoked with the turn out, especially in the women’s divisions. Mr. Holden thanked the generous sponsors and the hard working committee. Money raised from the event is donated back to the community. Last year $4,500 was donated to the three local volunteer bush fire brigades.
The surfing was top class with many State and Australian champions competing.
The Open Men and Open Logger division were dominated by Anthony Spencer, while Georgia Young won both the Open Women and Women’s Logger divisions.
Male division winners were Over 70s Graham Walmsley, Over 65s Bob Monkman , Over 60s Richard Wain, Over 55 Doug Curruthers, Over 50s Neil Thompson,
Over 40s Dane Quirk, Old Mal Jock Bahen and Junior Kai Flynn.
In the woman’s divisions Belinda le Grice won the Over 50s and Claire Edwards won the over 40s.
Team Commit, made up of the organising committee won the Teams Event.
City of Busselton Deputy Mayor Dave Carter was on hand to present the winner’s trophies and remarked at what an iconic local event the Yal mal is. City of Busselton is a major sponsor along with Aravina Winery and Holden Accountants.
