PERTH’S PREMIERE SURFING COMPETITION THE CORSAIRE AVIATION KING OF THE POINT RETURNS TO TRIGG THIS WEEKEND

Perth’s premiere surf tournament is preparing to return to Trigg Point this weekend, with the 2023 Corsaire Aviation King of the Point presented by City of Stirling attracting some of Western Australia’s best and most exciting surfers to the metropolitan beaches.

After having to be postponed back in March due to a lack of suf, competitors from across WA will be challenged by winter swells that will peak on Sunday just in time for finals.

First run back in 1979, the King of the Point is one of WA’s most iconic and prestigious events, boasting an impressive honour roll of past champions including WA legends; Mike McAuliffe (Margaret River), Dave Macaulay (Gracetown), Jake Paterson (Yallingup) and Jacob Willcox (Margaret River) to name just a few.

The action is set to be red-hot both in and out of the water, as a host of WA’s best surfers converge on Trigg Point to battle it out for over $10k in cash and prizes up for grabs.

This royal treasure has attracted an elite field of surfers who will challenge to sit on top of the throne, with competitors from WA’s five surfing regions preparing to lay siege of the Kingdom of Trigg.

The reigning King of the Point, Duke Nagtzaam (Yallingup) will face off against regional shredders including Josh Cattlin (Yallingup), George Simpson (Gracetown), Cyrus Cox (Margaret River) and Jake Hagan (Geraldton). While local hopes Luke Campbell (Trigg), Jake Molloy (Yokine) and Fletcher Llanwarne (Sorrento) will be out to keep the crown on their home beach when competition gets underway on Saturday.

An equally impressive group of ladies will also be out to get their hands on the crown in the Queen of the Point division, with former WSL Championship surfer Claire Bevilacqua (Yallingup), spearheading an impressive field of female talent.

Other divisions to be contested include Lord of the Point (Over-40 Men’s), Prince of the Point (Under-21 Men), Princess of the Point (Under-21 Women) and Jester of the Point (Under-16 Boys).

Surfing WA is thrilled to again be partnering with Corsaire Aviation to deliver this iconic event to the local surfing community.

“Corsaire is stoked to again be supporting King of the Point and surfing in Western Australia,” said company founder Luke Wyllie. “This is the sixth year Corsaire has backed this iconic grass roots events and we love working with Surfing WA and promoting the sport of surfing to a wider audience.”

City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said the exciting event would attract some of the state’s best surfers to Trigg Point.

“The City is proud to support King of the Point as it not only showcases the talent of local surfers but it also puts our beautiful City coastline on centre stage,” he said. “Over the weekend there will be plenty happening to entertain visitors of all ages so I look forward to seeing the tough competition and I hope to see plenty of people coming out to support the local talent.”

King of the Point is more than just a surfing competition, with plenty happening in and out of the water all weekend long. There will be activations and entertainment for the whole family. As well as exciting surfing matchups in the water, there will be amazing food and refreshing drinks on offer at Canteen and Island Market, live DJ’s will keep the vibes high, while kids treasure hunts, as well as the Rusty Expression Sessions.

Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks is looking forward to rolling out one of the association’s biggest and best competition on its home beach.

“We’re super excited to be hosting this prestigious event on Perth’s best surfing beach,” said Majeks. “Thanks to the ongoing support of our key partners Corsaire Aviation and the City of Stirling, we’re able to promote the rich history of this event and the future stars of the sport.”
