38 of Western Australia’s very best surfers are preparing to head across the Nullarbor this month to represent the state at the Australian Surf Championships, which will kick off in Port Macquarie, NSW this Friday.

The 18 day event will run from August 4th to 21st and will feature five separate codes including; shortboard, longboard, logger, adaptive and bodyboard divisions.

WA competitors will fill a total of 61 positions in an event that is set to attract hundreds of the country’s most exciting and experienced competitors set to converge on the surf-rich region of New South South Wales.

The West Australian team comprises many state and national champions as well as international representatives who will all be out to etch their names into the record books, competing in a variety of age divisions ranging from Under-16’s through to Over-70’s.

Ebony Schell (Mindarie) will look to defend her Open Women’s national bodyboard title, as will Paul Dupuy (Albany) in the Over-50 Men’s short board division.

“We’re thrilled to see so many West Australian’s heading to Port Macquarie this year, with a total of 61 positions filled by our local talent,” said Surfing Western Australia Team Manager Tim Thirsk. “WA is a strong chance of winning multiple Australian Titles and I can’t wait for the event to begin.”
