38x WA SURFERS TO CONTEST THE 2023 AUSTRALIAN SURF CHAMPIONSHIPS IN PORT MACQUARIE, NSW

 38 of Western Australia’s very best surfers are preparing to head across the Nullarbor this month to represent the state at the Australian Surf Championships, which will kick off in Port Macquarie, NSW this Friday.

The 18 day event will run from August 4th to 21st and will feature five separate codes including; shortboard, longboard, logger, adaptive and bodyboard divisions. 

WA competitors will fill a total of 61 positions in an event that is set to attract hundreds of the country’s most exciting and experienced competitors set to converge on the surf-rich region of New South South Wales.

The West Australian team comprises many state and national champions as well as international representatives who will all be out to etch their names into the record books, competing in a variety of age divisions ranging from Under-16’s through to Over-70’s.

Ebony Schell (Mindarie) will look to defend her Open Women’s national bodyboard title, as will Paul Dupuy (Albany) in the Over-50 Men’s short board division.

“We’re thrilled to see so many West Australian’s heading to Port Macquarie this year, with a total of 61 positions filled by our local talent,” said Surfing Western Australia Team Manager Tim Thirsk. “WA is a strong chance of winning multiple Australian Titles and I can’t wait for the event to begin.”

About the Australian Surf Championships: Surfing Australia and Surfing NSW are pleased to bring the 2023 Australian Surf Championships. The championships incorporates the Australian Shortboard Titles, Australian Longboard and Logger Titles, Australian Para Surfing Titles and the Australian Bodyboard Titles. All events will run consecutively in Port Macquarie from Town Beach in the north to North Haven in the south from August 4 – 21, 2023

Events Manager (Full Time)
This role is responsible for leading the delivery of major surfing events across WA, including the Margaret River Pro, King of the Point, Whalebone Longboard Classic, and more. We are seeking an experienced and organised professional with strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, and a passion for event delivery in a high-performance, community-driven environment.

Office Administrator (Full Time)
As the first point of contact for Surfing WA, this position plays a key role in the daily operations of the organisation. The successful applicant will have strong communication and administrative skills, customer service experience, and the ability to coordinate bookings, support internal teams, and ensure efficient office functionality.

Both positions are full-time roles based in Trigg, with a preferred commencement date in August 2025.
