GROMMETS PREPARE TO RIDE THE WAVE OF EXCITEMENT AT THE WOOLWORTHS SURFER GROMS COMP IN WA

Grommets from across Western Australia aregetting ready for an electrifying weekend of wave-riding along Perth’s metropolitan beaches, as the eighth stop of the  Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps prepares to splash down at Trigg Point on Saturday.

The Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps aren’t just another competition series; they are a vibrant and essential part of the national surfing development pathway, igniting and fuelling the passion for surf competition in micro-grommets from all corners of the country.

This nationwide series, kick-started in New South Wales in September, has become a beacon for the newest generations of young surfing stars, with boys and girls gearing up to compete in Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, and Under-14 divisions.

2023 State Champions Leila Fraser (Margaret River) and Ace Flynn (Cowaramup) will lead the charge in the blue-ribbon Under-14 Girls and Under-14 Boys divisions, while for many young surfers, this event will marks their debut in competitive surfing, and the anticipation is palpable.

“The Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps are fantastic for our emerging group of young West Aussie surfers,” said Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks. “The unique format ensures fun and excitement, with each grom getting at least two surfs before facing elimination. The event is a thrilling mix of bona fide rippers and kids who are just getting a taste for competition surfing.”

Regarded as a pivotal stepping stone in the development of young Australian surfers, the 10-event Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series will span across South Australia, Western Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and Tasmania.

Each event will contribute to a competitor’s overall National Junior Ranking, with points awarded based on performance, adding an extra layer of intensity to the already exhilarating competition. Get ready for the ride of a lifetime as the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps roll into Perth, making waves and shaping the future of Australian surfing!

As an added bonus, the respective winners of the Under 14 boys’ and girls’ divisions from each event will receive an invite to attend an all-expenses-paid, three-day Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps National Final Surf Camp, (1-day coaching clinic, two days of competition and heat analysis coaching) at the Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC).
