WA’S BEST JUNIOR SURFERS SET TO TACKLE MARGARET RIVER’S WORLD-CLASS WAVES

MARGARET RIVER, WA/AUS (Tuesday 11th February 2025) – Close to 100 of Western Australia’s best junior surfers are set to descend upon Margaret River’s world class-waves later this week for the highly anticipated opening event of the 2025 WA Junior Surfing Titles presented by Think Mental Health.

For the first time since 2022, WA’s rising stars will paddle out at Surfers Point and put their skills to the test at a location that hosts the world’s best surfers on the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT). With it’s powerful and challenging waves, Surfers Point will be an exciting proving ground for WA’s next generation of surfing superstars.

Grommets aged from 8 to 17 years, will compete in the first of three crucial events, vying for a chance to represent WA at the 2025 Australian Junior Surfing Titles set to be held in South Australia in November.

The stage is set for an electrifying battle against Margaret River’s famed swells, a destination that has breed local surf heroes Jack RobinsonJacob Willcox, Bronte Macaulay and Willow Hardy, who have all carved their way from these very waters to the world stage – who will be next?

South-West locals are ready to capitalise on their home break advantage, with Okie Fraser (Margaret River), leading the charge in the blue-ribbon Under-18 Boys division, off the back of his recent victory at the 20th Taj’s Small Fries in Yallingup. While Olive Hardy (Margaret River), will come into the event as the top ranked Under-18 Girl, continuing her family’s strong surfing pedigree.

“It’s shaping up to be an epic event and it’s so great that our newest surfing champions get their chance to compete at a World Championship Tour location,” said Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks. “I’m sure they all dream of following in the footsteps of Jack Robinson, who claimed victory at the Margaret River Pro in 2024, this is just the beginning of that journey for many of them.”

High-performance surf coaches and arguably some of the best to ever grace the waves at Surfers Point; Mike McAuliffe, Mia McCarthy and Bronte Macaulay, will be on hand throughout the event, offering invaluable insights and mentoring to help surfers refine their heat strategies, understand wave selection, and maximise their performance on one of the most demanding waves in the world.

The forecast is looking favourable, with waves in the 3-5 feet range forecast. Competition kicks off at 8:00am on Friday, with finals set for Sunday afternoon.
