WA SURFERS CHASE NATIONAL GLORY AT AUSTRALIAN JUNIOR TITLES

Published on 25/11/2025

West Australia’s best young surfers are set to fly the flag proudly next week as the 2025 WA Junior Surfing Team heads to Wollongong for the Australian Junior Surfing Titles.

More than 250 of the nation’s top junior surfers will hit the water from November 29 to December 5, with more than 30 West Australians ready to take on the country’s best across a full week of competition.

This prestigious competition offers emerging talent the opportunity to join an elite list of past champions, including WA’s Taj Burrow, Stephanie Gilmore, Molly Picklum, Sally Fitzgibbons, Laura Enever, Tyler Wright, Nikki Van Dijk, Coco Cairns, Owen Wright, Joel Parkinson, Mick Fanning, and Reef Heazlewood.

WA will field a strong field of 35 junior surfers led by team captains Okie Fraser (Margaret River) and Rosie Gillett (Dunsborough), who are joined by top seeds Jack Bulloch (Secret Harbour), Mia Jacobs (Gracetown), Cruz Macdonald (Geraldton), Poppy Redman Carr (Dunsborough), Jasper Glossop (Margaret River) and Ily Fraser (Margaret River).

“Representing WA at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles is something truly special,” said Surfing WA COO Matt Wilson. “This event is a proven launchpad to the world stage, as shown by the champions who have come through these ranks. Our juniors have worked incredibly hard all year and I know they will give their all in Wollongong.”

Competition will begin on Saturday, November 29 following the official opening ceremony on Friday. Surfers will compete in individual divisions including Under 14, 16 and 18 age groups along with the prestigious MR Shield School divisions. Winners in each age division will receive 12,000 ranking points, and champions in the U16 and U18 divisions will earn selection for the 2026 Australian National Surfing Team, The Irukandjis, for the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.

Event information and daily updates will be available at www.australianjuniorsurfingtitles.com, with full coverage of Team WA featured across Surfing WA’s social media channels. Heat draws are available through LiveHeats and all finals day action will be streamed live on Surfing Australia’s YouTube channel on Friday December 5.
