Aventuur and Surfing WA are delighted to announce an exciting partnership for the Perth Surf Park. The collaboration between the surf park developer and the state’s peak representative body for surfing is set to deliver a range of benefits to the Western Australian community and enhance the region’s reputation as an international surfing destination.
Strategically located in Central Cockburn, the $100m development will create a world-class, sustainable surf park welcoming over 1 million visitors per year. Opening in 2026, the venue will offer perfect waves for all abilities, high-performance training facilities, and major sporting and cultural events – along with quality leisure, hospitality and retail amenities.
Under the partnership, Aventuur will provide Surfing WA with unparalleled access to the Perth Surf Park, including use of the venue’s surfing lagoon, surf academy, and skate facilities for competitions, events, boardriders clubrounds and athlete training. The agreement will also see the park’s surf coaches certified by Surfing WA, and will provide Surfing WA’s members with discounted park entry and experiences.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the partnership, Surfing WA’s CEO Mark Lane said,
“The Perth Surf Park will be a great asset for surfing in Western Australia, and our relationship with Aventuur aligns seamlessly with our mission to advance surfing at all levels. The park will provide the ultimate training ground for our Olympic, World Surf League and junior athletes, who can utilise the wavepool and other innovative facilities to prepare for their campaigns. We’re also thrilled to host competitive, cultural and boardriders club events at the Perth Surf Park, and to promote community wellbeing through recreational, adaptive, youth and water safety programs like Surfers Rescue 365,” he added.
Surfing WA will support Aventuur throughout development and operations, including assisting with the design of the park’s surf academy, training surf coaches and surf guides, and developing holistic surf, skate and fitness programs in collaboration with Aventuur’s high-performance partner, Micro Surf Academy. The two organisations will also team up to establish Perth’s first inland boardriders club at the Perth Surf Park, and work with State and National sporting organisations to have the venue recognised as an Olympic training facility.
Aventuur’s Chairman and Chief Development Officer, Andrew Ross, emphasised the significance of the relationship, stating, “Our partnership with Surfing WA represents our commitment to create a sporting, leisure and tourism destination that is by the West, for the West. In addition to nurturing the next generation of homegrown athletes, we’re excited to provide a hub for boardriders clubs, social surfing groups and aligned charities, and collaborate on meaningful initiatives to better our community – including beach clean-ups, water safety courses and mental wellness, resilience and surf therapy programs.”
The Perth Surf Park is expected to create over 300 jobs during construction, and contribute more than $250m to the WA economy during its operating life. With all development and environmental approvals now received, construction is expected to commence later in 2024, ahead of the park’s expected opening in 2026.
