DENMARK DELIVERS FOR 2026 WA SUP CHAMPIONSHIPS

Published on 02/06/2026

TRIGG BEACH, WA/AUS (Monday, June 1, 2026), Western Australia’s stand up paddleboarding community came together in Denmark on Sunday, with Parry Beach delivering fun and contestable waves for the 2026 Stand Up Surf Shop North Freo WA SUP Championships presented by Think Mental Health.

Competitors travelled from across the state to battle for State Titles and positions on Team WA, with divisions ranging from Open Men and Women through to Over-60 and 9ft categories.

After an uncertain forecast leading into the weekend, competitors were rewarded with clean conditions and plenty of scoring opportunities throughout the day, making for an enjoyable and highly competitive event.

Local standout Isi Campbell (Denmark) successfully defended her Open Women’s State Title, posting the highest heat total of the event with an impressive 16.50 points out of a possible 20.

“It’s an event I’ve looked forward to every year now for the past three years, but it’s nice to have it at home,” said Campbell. “I’m glad we got good weather and great waves.”

Campbell’s performance further cemented her position as one of Australia’s most accomplished SUP surfers, adding another State Title to an already impressive list of achievements.

The Open Men’s division was claimed by Chris Twomey (Karrinyup), who put together a strong performance to overcome James Hoimes (Geraldton) and Peter Tomsett (Greenwood) in the final.

Twomey backed up his Open Men’s victory by also claiming the Over-50 Men’s title, making him one of only two competitors to secure multiple State Championships on the day.

“I absolutely love this coastline,” said Twomey. “This is such a beautiful place. It’s such a fantastic place to be, simply driving around through here. It’s a fantastic event. Being able to share it with crew like this, it’s amazing.”

Joining Twomey as a double State Champion was Crawford Olney (Spearwood), who dominated the 9ft divisions, claiming both the Open Men’s 9ft and Over-50 Men’s 9ft titles.

“We really lucked out and got some really fun waves,” said Olney. “I was really happy to get out there, get a couple of heats with some good friends and good surfers, get some fun waves and a couple of wins, so yeah, I’m stoked.”

“I’ve been doing it for a few years and I enjoy the experience of coming together with the SUP surfing crew. I’ve got a great support crew, it’s a family affair. I think that sense of community you get with the event is gold.”

Olney also praised those behind the event.

“Surfing WA always put on a great show and keep it professional, and a big thanks to Stand Up Surf Shop for always supporting the crew. It was a good year.”

Another standout performer was Richard Wain (Dunsborough), who swept both Over-60 divisions, taking victory in the Over-60 Men’s and Over-60 Men’s 9ft events.

“I think we were super lucky today because all the competitors had a heap of chances,” said Wain. “There were lefts and rights, so everyone had a good opportunity to score.”

In the women’s 9ft division, Tashka Goswell (Perth) claimed the State Title and was all smiles after enjoying the conditions on offer.

Elsewhere, Peter Tomsett (Greenwood) claimed the Over-40 Men’s State Title after a consistent day of surfing, while Jacenta McKenna (Dunsborough) secured the Over-40 Women’s championship and finished runner-up in the Open Women’s division.

Surfing WA Contest Director Pete Carrol praised the event and the close-knit nature of the SUP community.

“Denmark delivered a fantastic day of competition and once again showcased why it is one of WA’s premier surfing destinations,” said Carrol.

“The quality of surfing was excellent across every division, but what stands out most is the community spirit. Competitors travel from all corners of the state to be part of this event, and that sense of camaraderie is something really special.”
