Some of Western Australia’s best stand up paddle boarders are preparing to converge on the state’s mid-west later this week for the 2024 Stand Up Surf Shop North Freo WA SUP Championship presented by Think Mental Health.
A star-studded field of competitors from across the WA will be out to make the most of Geraldton’s dreamy winter surf conditions in hope of qualifying for the Australian SUP Titles scheduled to be held on Phillip Island, Victoria in October.
The Batavia coastline has become synonymous with stand up paddleboarding after hosting the Australian SUP Titles back in 2016, and has been a favoured location for the discipline ever since, with many great waves and waterways perfectly suited to paddle boarding.
All signs are pointing towards another memorable event, with a good groundswell and favourable winds forecast for both Saturday and Sunday.
Competitors will line up in range of divisions including; Open Men’s, Open Women’s, Over-40’s, Over-50’s, Over-60’s, Under-18 Junior’s, as well the popular 10 foot plus category. With a total of ten state titles on the line, as well as multiple positions in the WA SUP Team for this year’s national titles, competition is set to be fierce!
Competition will get underway at Sunset Beach (Swan Drive) on Saturday morning from 8am with finals taking place on Sunday.
