MARGARET RIVER CLASSIC WRAPS UP FOR THE 38th TIME

The 38^th Margaret River Classic wrapped up last week in trying 6-8 foot conditions. A field of close to 100 competitors aged from 10-50 years of age braved the elements to vy for a swag of cash and other prizes proudly supported by the town of Margaret River.

There was a distinctly local vibe at Surfers Point with many of the region’s surfing families and boardriders members working together to put on another amazing event.

The Margaret River Boardriders hosted many of WA’s finest competitive surfers and despite the challenging conditions there was amazing surfing on display with CT contender Jacob Willcox, Club President Jerome Forrest and local big wave charger Felicity Palmateer some of the stand-out performers on finals day.

Spectators were treated to a perfect 10-point ride from Willcox in the Open Men’s final, tearing apart the lumpy waves with his razor sharp rail game.

This year’s Classic also saw the addition of the inaugural Under-16 Cadets division which saw both male and female junior surfers navigating the tricky onshore conditions with some solid performances put in by Brock launders, Otis North, Macklin Flynn and Ruby Berry.

Thanks must go to Settlers Tavern, the Shire of Augusta Margaret River and all the local businesses that once again got behind this prestigious event. Margaret River Boardriders Committee look forward to making the Classic even bigger and better next year.
