STOP # 2 OF THE WOOLWORTHS SURFER GROMS COMPS TO SPLASH DOWN ON TRIGG BEACH

Published on 19/10/2021

The second stop of the 2021 Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps is set to splash down on Trigg Beach this weekend, with WA’s newest generation of micro-frothers set to benefit from two days of surf & excitement along Perth’s metro beaches.

The Surfer Groms Comps are a fun and friendly introduction to surf competition, with grommies from right across WA set to line up in this nationwide series which recently kicked off in South Australia.

The Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps is the only Australian event series catering for the increasing number of the country’s ‘micro-groms’, with boys and girls preparing to compete in Under-8, Under-10, Under-12 and Under-14 divisions.

As an added bonus, the respective winners of the Under 14 Boys’ and Girls’ divisions will each receive an invite to attend an all-expenses-paid, three-day Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps National Final Surf Camp, (1-day coaching clinic, 2 days of competition and event coaching) at the Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC).

Close to 70 of WA’s brightest young surfing stars are set to compete this weekend, with an impressive group of talent all vying for their chance to head away to the Surfing Australia HPC.

Under-14 Boys State Champion Maverick Wilson (Dunsborough), will be joined by the likes of Okie Fraser (Margaret River), Remy North (Yallingup) and Kade Martin (Yallingup), who will all headline the blue-ribbon Under 14 Boys division. While, Under-14 Girls State Champion Olive Hardy (Margaret River), will do battle with fellow rising stars Mia Jacobs (Mandurah), Indie Siedmiogrodzki (City Beach) and Edel Rodden (Geraldton) in the hotly contested Under-14 Girls division.

“The Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps are super exciting for our emerging young West Aussie surfers,” said Surfing WA’s Events Manager Justin Majeks. “The unique format focuses fun and excitement, with every grom getting at least two surfs. Over the years the event has provided an exciting mix of bona fide rippers and well as kids who are competing for the very first time which is always exciting.”

Despite some wild weather lashing much of the WA coastline right now, great grommet conditions are forecast this weekend with Trigg Beach set to be overrun by frothing grommets and their families, with sunny skies and clean swells forecast for both Saturday and Sunday.

Regarded as one of the major stepping stones in the development of young Australian surfers, the 10-event Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series caters for surfers from Under 8 to Under 14 and will be held in South Australia, Western Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and Tasmania over summer.

Each division of the 2021 Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps has been added to the 2021 Surfing Australia National Junior Rankings with each event rated at 5500pts for first place with points descending respectively. A result at this event will contribute to a competitor’s overall National Junior Ranking.
