Close to 100 of Western Australia’s best up and coming junior surfers are set to call Perth’s metropolitan beaches home this weekend, as the third and final event of the Woolworths WA Junior Surf Titles presented by SunSmart prepares to kick off this Saturday.
Grommets from across WA will converge on Trigg Beach for what is set to be an action-packed two-day event. After starting in Margaret River back in March, then stopping in Geraldton in July, the Woolworths WA Junior Surf Titles will conclude this weekend, with three State Championship Titles still up for grabs in the Under-16 Boys, Under-14 Boys and Under-12 Micro-Groms divisions.
WA’s newest generation of surfing superstars will be out to impress this weekend and will be out to emulate the efforts of Taj Burrow (Yallingup), Yadin Nicol (Cowaramup), Ry Craike (Kalbarri), Creed McTaggart (Margaret River), Jack Robinson (Margaret River), Claire Bevilacqua (Yallingup), Jacob Willcox (Margaret River) and Bronte Macaulay (Gracetown), who have all captured prestigious State Junior Titles in the past.
After great performances in Margaret River and Geraldton, Jed Gradisen (Gracetown), Coral Durant (Carnarvon), Ruby Berry (Augusta), and Isi Campbell (Denmark) have already captured 2020 State Titles. It will come down to this event to see who will join them as part of the 2020 WA Junior Surfing Team.
Adding to the excitement of the weekend is the fact that competitors from all of WA’s surfing regions will be in attendance, with surfers traveling from as far as Esperance and Kalbarri to be part of the Woolworths Junior Surf Titles.
The weekend forecast is looking challenging, with small swell forecast for both Saturday and Sunday. Competition will commence on Saturday morning from 8am, with finals set to take place on Sunday.
“After a COVID-19 affected season, it’s going to be great to crown our final Junior State Champions for 2020,” said Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks. “Despite the forecast we are expecting big things from WA’s impressive group of junior surfers who have signed up to compete.”
Woolworths are committed to encouraging healthy eating habits amongst Aussie kids and gave away over 25 million pieces of free fruit last year as part of their free fruit for kids program.
