WE NEED YOUR HELP TO BEAT GUINNESS WORLD RECORD AND RAISE MONEY FOR CANCER

Published on 15/02/2022

With around 13,300 West Australians diagnosed with cancer each year, many of us have been touched by cancer in one way or another. For us at Surfing WA it has hit very close to home, with Surfing WA chief executive, Mark Lane, fighting his own cancer battle multiple times.

Mark and the Surfing WA team are calling for more than 800 West Aussies armed with their surfboards, to join them this Saturday, February 19, to create a 2km line of surfboards along the stretch of beach from Scarborough to Trigg for Boards up for Cancer.

Mr Lane said he hopes to draw a big crowd to the event to raise money for Solaris Cancer Care and also beat the Guinness World Record of 685 boards that stretched 1.6km in New York in 2016.

“We’d love to see the surfing community unite and put their boards up for this worthwhile cause,” Mr Lane said. “Solaris Cancer Care has been there to help during my own cancer battle and I’m glad to be able to support this event.”

Former WSL Championship Tour surfer, reality TV star and newly crowned Open Women’s State Title winner, Felicity Palmateer, has thrown her support behind the charity having seen her own father Warrick battle the disease. Palmateer will also be joined by Hollywood stuntman and actor Nigel Harbsch, who has survived two cancer battles.

Surfing WA has pre-purchased a limited number of tickets which we are offering to the local surfing community, free of charge!
