TAJ BURROW WINS MALDIVES SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS TROPHY

Published on 04/09/2024

Western Australian surfing legend Taj Burrow has clinched victory at the Surfing Championships Trophy, held at the famed Sultans break in the Maldives.

The event kicked off in ideal conditions, with three days of pristine, sapphire waves and 85-degree water that created a surfer’s paradise. The competition attracted a stellar field, including 5-time World Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Carissa Moore, Mikey February, Jeremy Flores, Jadson Andre, and local Ahmed ‘Ammaday’ Agil.

Taj dominated throughout the event, navigating tube after tube with precision and even scored a perfect 10 during the competition.

He finished second in all three categories—Single Fin, Thruster, and Twin Fin— and secured his third Surfing Championships Trophy title by edging out Mikey February in the final.

“I’ve already retired, but if I ever un-retire, it’ll be for an event like this. Best comp ever,” said Taj. He further described the experience, saying, “That was probably the most fun I’ve ever had in a contest. It’d have to be. Perfect waves, with one other guy in the water. It was incredible.”
