Surfing Australia is committed to running events and programs that evolve with the changing nature of our sport. We strive to work collaboratively with our state members, external stakeholders, third-party event promoters, and competitors to refine our classifications, divisions, and event structures to meet the evolving needs of our competitive community.
In 2024, the decision was made to split the National Titles into stand-alone event locations. Based on the feedback we have received, this was a successful evolution of these longstanding, prestigious national events.
For 2025, we have introduced several changes to the Surfing Australia Rulebook and the competition structure of our National Titles based on feedback from our members. The most significant updates are outlined below:
ALL AUSTRALIAN TITLES
- The Championship Draw will be used for round sizes of 16 competitors or larger.
- All divisions with rounds of 6, 8, 10, or 12 competitors will follow the Second Chance format, meaning that all surfers will start in Round 1, with no state seeds advancing directly to Round 3.
- The Championship Draw will only be used when all six states can benefit from receiving a Round 3 entry.
- This change aims to create fairness for all state seeds.
AUSTRALIAN SUP TITLES
21st October – 25th October | Phillip Island, Victoria
- Introduction of a Men’s Over 60 SUP division at state and national levels.
- Reduction of board specifications for the SUP Longboard division from 10ft+ to 9ft.
AUSTRALIAN SHORTBOARD TITLES
26th August – 31st August | Wollongong, NSW
- Removal of the Men’s and Women’s Over 35 divisions.
- Introduction of the Men’s and Women’s over 30 divisions.
- Addition of a Men’s Over 65 division.
AUSTRALIAN LONGBOARD TITLE
22nd July – 27th July | Tweed Coast, NSW
- Removal of Men’s Over 45 Division.
