THREE STATE CHAMPIONS CROWNED AS WA’S BEST JUNIOR SURFERS DELIVER AT TRIGG BEACH

Published on 15/06/2026

TRIGG BEACH, WA/AUS (Monday 15th June 2026), Western Australia’s next generation of surfing stars delivered an impressive display of talent at Trigg Beach over the weekend, with three state champions crowned during Round 2 of the Club Med WA Junior Surfing Titles presented by Think Mental Health.

Close to 100 competitors from across the state converged on Perth’s metropolitan coastline for three days of competition, with valuable rankings points, state championships and state-team selection opportunities all on the line ahead of the series finale in Geraldton next month.

The standard of surfing reached new heights throughout the weekend, with multiple finals producing excellent scores and several surfers posting some of the highest heat totals seen so far this season.

“The level of surfing across all divisions was outstanding,” said Surfing WA Regional Operations Manager Kim Clift.

“We saw some incredible performances right across the weekend and it’s exciting to see so many young surfers continuing to push themselves as we head towards the final event in Geraldton.”

One of the standout stories of the weekend belonged to Margaret River’s Olive Hardy, who continued her remarkable 2026 campaign by claiming both the Under-18 Girls event victory and the WA Junior State Championship.

Hardy posted an impressive 17.50 two-wave total in the final, combining an 8.27 and a 9.23 to comfortably secure victory. The result adds to an already stellar year for the talented surfer, who claimed the WA Open Women’s State Championship in March before being crowned Queen of the Point at Trigg Beach last month.

“Massive thanks to Surfing WA for running another amazing event and all the state rounds over the years as well,” said Hardy. “It’s pretty weird being on the old side now and the last year doing the junior state titles, but it’s been a good run.”

Cowaramup’s Lily Naylor secured the Under-16 Girls State Championship after a composed and consistent performance throughout the event. Naylor posted a winning total of 14.94 in the final to take both the Round 2 victory and the state title.

Local favourite Kyuss Rimmer successfully defended his Under-12 Boys State Championship, becoming a back-to-back state champion after another dominant performance in front of his home crowd at Trigg. Rimmer’s winning total of 16.67 proved too strong for the field as the talented youngster continued the form that saw him crowned state champion in 2025.

“Yeah, I feel really good,” said Rimmer. “With the north winds the right didn’t really have many sections on it, there were more lefts and they were way better.”

The highest scoring performance of the weekend belonged to Ethan Anderson (Cowaramup), who produced a near-flawless display in the Under-16 Boys final. Anderson combined a 9.17 and a 9.10 for an outstanding 18.27 heat total, narrowly edging out Margaret River’s Jasper Glossop, who was also in exceptional form with a 17.17 total of his own.

“Yeah, I’m pretty happy,” said Anderson. “Everyone dropped big scores at the start and I was the last person to get a wave so I was nervous, but then I got a good one and it put me in a good rhythm.”

The Under-14 Boys division produced one of the most entertaining battles of the event, with Ollie Holmes (Dunsborough) and Nate Spooner (Yallingup) trading excellent scores throughout a high-quality final. Holmes ultimately emerged victorious with a 17.90 total, highlighted by a 9.40 and an 8.50, while Spooner finished close behind with an equally impressive 16.93.

“Oh, I’m so stoked,” said Holmes. “Yeah, it’s going to be tough in Gero, everyone’s ripping.”

The Under-18 Boys title went to Secret Harbour’s Jack Bulloch, who executed a smart game plan to claim victory in one of the most competitive divisions of the weekend.

“Big thanks to Wooly coaching all day,” said Bulloch. “We had a good plan for the final, finishing left, which worked out well.” “These guys are crazy, we all know how good they are, so it felt good to come out on top in this final.”

Other division winners included Kit Vernon (Wembley Downs) in the Under-12 Girls and Ily Fraser (Margaret River) in the Under-14 Girls.

With just one stop remaining on the 2026 schedule, attention now turns north to Geraldton, where the final event will determine the remaining state champions and help shape Western Australia’s team for the Australian Junior Surfing Titles later this year.

“Congratulations to all of our winners and finalists,” added Clift. “The future of surfing in WA is in great hands and we’re looking forward to seeing the series wrap up in Geraldton next month.”
