STATE TITLES UP FOR GRABS IN DENMARK FOR THE THE VOLTE WA LONGBOARD & LOGGER TITLES

Excitement is building amongst Western Australia’s vibrant  longboard community, with the final event of the 2021 Volte Wetsuits WA Longboard & Logger Titles presented by SunSmart preparing to head south to Denmark this weekend.

A favourable surf forecast has attracted competitors from right around WA, with a total of 17 separate divisions to be contested this weekend, catering for both men and women, ranging from Under-18 Juniors through to Over-70 Grand Legends.

The two-day event will see local surfers will go toe-to-toe with those travelling from as far afield as Esperance, Yallingup, Margaret River, Mandurah and Perth in an attempt to secure a WA State Title and a spot in the 2021 Australian Surf Championships to be held in Port Macquarie, NSW.

Denmark has produced it’s fair share of talent over the years and provides an amazing backdrop for the states best  longboarders and log riders to strut their stuff.

Ocean Beach will be the prime event location for the weekend and offers some of the most ideal conditions for longboarding in Australia. The sheltered bay handles small to large surf and offers an abundance of options for event officials.

“Denmark is ideal surf territory, especially if you’re a longboarder,” said Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks. “Ocean Beach is an amazing venue and having access to the Denmark SLSC gives our officials one of the best seats in house as far as judging goes. I know there’s a lot of excitement about heading down to Denmark.”

In one of the best turnouts of talent in recent years, the Open Men’s and Open Women’s longboard division are dripping with talent. In the Men’s Jack Medland (Dunsborough), Mark Matisons (Cottesloe), Evan Ledger (Cottesloe), Scott Trew (Gabbadah),  and Jacob McIvor (Rockingham) who are all capable of capturing victory.

While in the Women’s former State and National Champion Georgia Young (Perth) will take on many new names and faces who are set to benefit from the fun and highly contestable conditions forecast this weekend. Young will be joined by Denmark local Michaela Ross, as well as Emily Gibbs (Dunsborough) and Zali Corry (Mandurah) as early favourite’s to keep an eye on.

“It’s great to see so many girls in the mix this weekend, everyone is just as hungry for a win at Denmark as I am,” said Young. “With the waves we can go to down there, it’s going to be a fun weekend.”

Longboarding’s welcoming nature will be on display in Denmark this weekend with plenty of new and old faces set to line up against each other. Non-elimination round one heats will commence early on Saturday morning with Sunday set to be action-packed, for the all important finals.
