Surfing Western Australia is farewelling one of its most passionate and dedicated team members, with much-loved Events and Marketing Manager Justin Majeks stepping down this month to take on an exciting new role as Field Marketing Manager at Red Bull Australia.
After 18 incredible years shaping the state’s surf scene, Justin Majeks will be leaving Surfing Western Australia with his sights set on a bold new chapter.
From humble beginnings as a teenage work experience student, Justin’s journey through Surfing WA has been one of growth, leadership, and lasting impact. Over nearly two decades, he’s played a pivotal role in transforming the organisation’s events program into one of the most respected and diverse in the country – delivering more than 30 events annually, ranging from grassroots junior competitions to major international showcases like the Margaret River Pro and the WA Pro Surf Series.
But Justin’s impact has extended far beyond the lineup. A fierce advocate for homegrown talent, he has helped pave the way for the next generation of WA surfers, backing rising stars such as Felicity Palmateer, Bronte Macaulay, Jack Robinson, Jacob Willcox, and Willow Hardy, and championing the local surf community every step of the way.
He’s also been the architect of Surfing WA’s digital evolution, building a loyal following of over 225,000 social media fans and telling the stories of WA’s coastlines, communities, and champions with heart and authenticity.
“I’ve watched Justin grow from a teenager into one of the most respected event professionals in the country – and more importantly, into the person he is today. His dedication and commitment to his work, his approach to people, and his strong personal values have all come together to shape the Justin we’ve come to know and love,” said Surfing WA CEO Mark Lane.
“Many of us have enjoyed both a personal and professional relationship with Justin. And while we’ll pass the torch on to the next generation of events managers, his presence will leave a void that will be far more difficult to replace. We wish him all the very best in this exciting new chapter with Red Bull.”
Justin’s love for the ocean runs deep. Born into a surfing family and raised between Margaret River and Perth, his early days were spent behind the counter of his family run business Wet Dreams Surf Co, before diving into tertiary studies in Sport and Recreation Management and Biomedical Science. By 22, he’d officially joined the Surfing WA crew, as the Events Manager.
As he prepares to trade event tents for wings, the entire Surfing WA team extends its heartfelt thanks to Justin for his passion, leadership, and extraordinary contribution. His legacy will be felt for years to come, and we wish him every success in the journey ahead.
“It’s been an incredible ride. I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved together – from nurturing local grassroots talent to putting Western Australia on the map as a world-class surfing destination,” said Majeks, “Contributing to the growth of the sport at every level, locally, nationally and internationally, has been an absolute privilege. Surfing WA has been more than a workplace, it’s been my community, my family, and my passion for the past 18 years and I want to thank everyone in the team, all the members and supporters over my journey.”
