THE 29th SURF BOARDROOM SURF LEAGUE TO EXPLODE ON SCARBOROUGH BEACH THIS WEEKEND

Western Australia’s longest running and most prestigious inter-club surfing competition, the Surf Boardroom Surf League is set to splash down on Scarborough Beach this Saturday with some of WA’s best boardriding clubs set to compete.

Surf League first ran back in 1986 and ever since it has been a breeding ground of stoke and excitement amongst WA boardriders clubs, who’ll converge on Scarborough Beach to compete for over $5,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs.

The Surf Boardroom Surf League embodies what Australian sport is all about; mateship, team spirit, loyalty and unbelievable camaraderie. Surf League’s unique competition format will see clubs nominate their six strongest surfers (4 x open age surfers, 1 x Over-35 master, and 1 x Under-18 junior), with each surfers best two scores added together for an overall team total.

2021 celebrates the 29th year that local surf retailer, The Surf Boardroom has supported this iconic event which has become a rite of passage for many of WA’s best and surfers. Since 1992 The Surf Boardroom have provided the opportunity for mate to verse mate and club to verse club, in a fun, but highly competitive environment.

“The Surf League has genuine history here in WA and the event continues to attract some of the State’s best surfers as well as our best boardriding clubs to Scarborough Beach each and every year,” said The Surf Boardroom’s Geoff Counsel. “This is the 29th consecutive year that the Surf Boardroom has supported Surf League and we are excited to see it included as part of the Groundswell Festival. I wish all our clubs the best of luck and look forward to watching the final.”

Defending champions Trigg Point will take clubs from Surf Beach, City Beach, Margaret River and Yallingup, who will all benefit from a positive weekend surf forecast.

“Boardriding clubs are a great part of the surfing culture here in Australia,” said Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks. “Surfing is such an individual sport and events like the Surf League offer such a different vibe and it’s always exciting to watch.”

The 29th Surf Boardroom Surf League will once again combine with WA’s fave action-packed sand & land festival, the Drug Aware Groundswell Festival. Beyond the surf, skate bowl and courts, dip your toes into loads of other FREE activities, including complete wellness, sustainability and entertainment programs, plus the return of crowd fave the 78 Hub & Festival Village! How do you like the sound of beach games, DJs, pop-up markets, live installations, workshops and food trucks? Whether you’re ready to tackle the competition, connect with the community or just watch the action while catching some rays, there’s something to suit everyone!
