THE NORTH FREO STAND UP SURF SHOP WA SUP TITLES SET FOR A START IN THE PEEL REGION

The opening event of the North Freo Stand Up Surf Shop WA SUP Titles presented by SunSmart, will kick off this weekend along the Peel coastline, with two days of contrasting conditions set to challenge some of WA’s very best SUP surfers.

Mandurah provides a variety of different breaks, including break breaks, reef breaks and even some quality point breaks which event officials will look to utilise as competitors set their sights on the 2021 Australian SUP Titles, set to take place on Phillip Island, VIC in October.

The weekend event will be an exciting exhibition of surfing’s newest discipline, with WA producing some of the best SUP riders in the country.

Avalon will be the prime event location, with the large bay handling a wide range of conditions and the long running left handers providing great scoring opportunity.

“The waterways and waves around Mandurah are ideal for stand up paddleboarding,” said Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks. “Despite a tricky forecast we’re definitely looking forward to the opening event of the WA SUP Titles touching down in Mandurah this weekend.”

Competitors from right across WA will line up in diverse range of divisions including; Open Men, Open Women, Under-18 Juniors, Over-40 Men, Over-40 Women, Over-50 Men & Over-60 Men.

Chris Twomey (Karrinyup), Peter Tomsett (Greenwood) and Richard Wain (Dunsborough) will be out to defend their State Titles from 2020, while Monica McNab (Karrinyup) and Silvia De Araujo (Scarborough) will be the ladies to keep an eye on this weekend.

“Conditions are looking tricky, but I’m excited to get down with the crew and have a good time, no matter what, I’ve got fingers crossed for a few gems to roll through for us all,” said Stand Up Surf Shop team rider Marcus Tardrew. “Sunova is proud to sponsor such a great local comp.”

Surfing WA will be streaming live heat scores and results from the North Freo Stand Up Surf Shop WA SUP Titles so people can to follow the event anywhere on the planet.
