WORLD’S BEST SET SIGHTS ON COBBLESTONE POINT OF PUNTA ROCA FOR THE SURF CITY EL SALVADOR PRO PRESENTED BY CORONA

The World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT) heads to the pristine cobblestone righthander of Punta Roca (also known as La Punta or Punta Chilama) for the Surf City El Salvador Pro Presented by Corona, Stop No. 7 of the 2024 season, beginning June 6 through June 15, 2024. A pivotal point in the season returns to the tropical shoreline of La Libertad where competitors’ results will impact the rankings to determine who will compete in the one-day, winner-take-all event for the World Championships, the 2024 Lexus WSL Finals. The race for the Top 5 spots could not be closer and a win here could be the spark that separates who sits atop the rankings by the season’s end.

Tropical Dream and Promising Swell Awaits Top Surfers

Since 2022, the CT has been welcomed by Central America’s wave-rich coastline and culture of El Salvador to vie for all-important rankings’ points. Nestled within El Salvador’s Surf City of La Libertad, Punta Roca is one of Central America’s high-performance gems that can push surfers to bring out their best. Following an incredible run of swell in Tahiti, the world’s best could be treated to another dream event with swell on the horizon for the Surf City El Salvador Pro.

Pivotal Stop No. 7 Intensifies Fight For the WSL Final 5

Brisa Hennessy (CRC) jumped three spots following her runner-up at Teahupo’o to World No. 1 on the CT rankings. Securing four Semifinal spots so far in 2024, Hennessy has arguably been the most consistent competitor on the women’s CT as she looks to solidify her place in the Final 5 to compete for her maiden World Title.

The 2023 event winner Caroline Marks (USA) returns to defend her title and further secure her place among the Top 5 after a committed performance in Tahiti. Marks, reigning WSL Champion, gained major ground on the new No. 1 Hennessy and now No. 4 Johanne Defay (FRA) after a Semifinal finish at Teahupo’o amid another groundbreaking day in women’s surfing history.

For the men, Griffin Colapinto (USA) faced an early exit at the SHISHEIDO Tahiti Pro and now looks to bounce back and earn a second career victory at the Surf City El Salvador Pro Presented by Corona. He relinquished his No. 1 ranking to two-time WSL Champion John John Florence (HAW), who earned a runner-up finish in Tahiti.

The race to the WSL Final 5 will also heat up on the cobblestones of Punta Roca with 2019 WSL Champion Italo Ferreira (BRA), 2023 World Title contenders Jack Robinson (AUS), and Ethan Ewing (AUS).
