Some of Western Australia’s premier big board riders are preparing to descend upon the stunning south coast for three days of electrifying competition, as the 2024 West Coast Suspensions WA Longboard Championships, proudly presented by Think Mental Health, prepares for a start this Friday.
Nestled in a surf-rich haven, Denmark has become a cherished destination for the WA longboard community. Offering perfect waves and gorgeous natural scenery, the waves beckon with their siren call, attracting a diverse array of competitors ranging from Under-18 Juniors through to Over-70 Grand Legends.
A whopping 13 divisions will be contested, with seasoned locals to spirited contenders journeying from as far north as Exmouth and as far south as Esperance and everywhere in between with hopes of qualifying for the Australian Longboard Titles to be held later in the year.
The stage is set for an exhilarating showdown as many past state and national champions have been waxing up their nine foot long boards in hopes of glory. But the event is not just about seasoned pros; first-time competitors are buzzing with anticipation, drawn in by the welcoming embrace of the WA longboard community.
Leading the charge in the Open Men’s division is none other than the formidable Ryan Clark from Dunsborough, who’ll be challenged by an impressive lineup of contenders including; Anthony Spencer (Trigg), Jordan Morris (Hillarys), Scott Trew (Gabbadah) and Dane Quirk (Exmouth), with the battle for the 2024 State Title promising to be nothing short of epic.
In the Open Women’s division, eyes are on Perth’s own Georgia Young as she prepares to take on a wave of fresh and exciting talent. While, reigning Over-50 Women’s Australian champion Amanda Curley (Margaret River), gears up to defend her title with victory in Denmark.
Competitors should once again be blessed with the long-range forecast looking favourable for Parry’s Beach. The journey begins with heats kicking off on Friday morning, culminating in thrilling finals over the weekend.
Surfing Western Australia will also be hosting a social evening at The Surf Gallery, on Saturday 11th May, with a special screening of HURRY & WAIT – a film by Anthony Spencer & filmed by John Spencer from 6pm.
The film documents the places & waves that Anthony surfed in over the last 2 years throughout Western Australia and the Islands of Indonesia. Celebrating surfing and the beauty of Western Australia and Indonesia, it is a creative outlet for something with more meaning and an excuse to bring creatives together to keep pushing the limits.

Denmark is one of the longest road trips on the Surfing WA events calendar and the West Coast Suspensions WA Longboard Championship falls within National Road Safety Week (5 – 12 May).
