THE 32ND SURF BOARDROOM SURF LEAGUE READY TO MAKE WAVES AT SCARBOROUGH BEACH THIS SATURDAY

Western Australia’s most prestigious and longest-running inter-club surfing competition, the Surf Boardroom Surf League presented by Rip Curl, is preparing to light up Scarborough Beach this Saturday.

With over $5,000 in cash and prizes on the line, seven of WA’s top boardriding clubs are set to battle it out in a thrilling showdown that promises to deliver epic waves, fierce competition, and unforgettable moments.

Since 1986, the Surf Boardroom Surf League has been a hotbed of talent and excitement, bringing together some of WA’s best surfers for an event that celebrates the very essence of Australian sport—mateship, loyalty, and camaraderie.

The Surf League has become a rite of passage for many WA surfers, it is where legends are made, rivalries were born, and WA’s amazing boardriding club culture takes centre stage. Scarborough Beach will be buzzing as the best from the West go head-to-head in a high-stakes, action-packed battle for club pride and bragging rights.

Hot off the success of the recent Australian Boardriders Battle, the 32nd Surf Boardroom Surf League will see local and regional clubs nominate their six strongest surfers – four Open-age surfers, one Over-35 master, and one Under-18 junior, with each surfers top scores tallied together for an overall team total, setting the stage for a nail-biting contest where every wave could make or break the competition.

Since 1992, The Surf Boardroom has provided the platform for mate to verse mate and club to verse club, in what has become one of the most competitive and thrilling events on the WA surf calendar.

“As always, we are stoked to be able to support the Surf League event which will celebrate its 32nd year,” said the Surf Boardroom’s Matt Bowen. “Conditions are looking promising and we will be down on the beach cheering on some of our state’s best competition surfing talent. We can’t wait to see which club will claim the victory in 2024.”

Reigning champions Trigg Point Boardriders will be looking to defend their title and fresh off a second place finish at the Australian Boardriders Battle, they’re brimming with confidence.

“We love the Surf League and it’s something our club always gets around,” said Trigg Point’s Luke Campbell. “It’s so fun and has developed some pretty intense rivalries over the years.”

Trigg Point will face fierce competition from local clubs in Scarborough, Trigg Junior and Mullaloo, while regional clubs Margaret River, Yallingup and Albany will be all fired up and ready to take on the metro clubs, with big performances expected as these clubs bring their A-game to this high-energy contest.

“Boardriding clubs are the heart and soul of the Australian surfing culture,” said Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks. “It’s a truly unique part of our sport and the team spirit and energy of the Surf League creates a vibe that’s second to none. This is the one event that every club wants to win!”

And it’s not just about the waves – the Surf Boardroom Surf League is part of WA’s favourite action-packed sand and land festival, the Groundswell Festival, presented by the City of Stirling. Combining two days of non-stop surf, skate, and sport at Scarborough Beach, the festival is packed with free activities, from wellness and sustainability programs to beach games, DJs, pop-up markets, and much, much more. Whether you’re hitting the waves or simply soaking up the atmosphere, there’s something for everyone!
