TRIGG BEACH, WA/AUS (Thursday 28th May 2026), Some of Western Australia’s top longboarders are preparing to hit the road for one of the year’s most anticipated surf events – the 2026 West Coast Suspensions WA Longboard Championships, presented by Think Mental Health, kicking off this Friday in Denmark.
A favourite on the Surfing WA calendar, Denmark is renowned for its quality waves, rugged coastline, and laidback surf culture. Competition is expected to run at Parry’s Beach, with Ocean Beach also under consideration depending on conditions across the weekend.
The State Championship event will bring together surfers ranging from Under-18 Juniors through to Over-70 Grand Legends, with 13 divisions to be contested and positions on the Western Australian team for the Australian Longboard Titles in Tweed Heads, NSW, on the line
Competitors will travel from as far north as Kalbarri and as far south as Esperance, all chasing state titles and spots on the WA team. With a strong field of past champions and promising newcomers, this year’s event promises classic matchups and fresh rivalries.
2025 Open Men’s winner Jack Medland (Dunsborough) returns to the line-up this year, set to face tough competition from former State Champion Ryan Clark (Dunsborough), as well as Scott Trew (Gabbadah) and Evan Ledger (Yallingup), all chasing glory in the 2026 title race.
In the Open Women’s draw, all eyes will be on Maddie Barrett (Dunsborough) to see if she can claim back-to-back titles. She will be challenged by a talented field including Georgia Young (Perth), Denver Young (Claremont) and Bridget Churack (Yallingup).
Also returning to Denmark is current Australian Over-70 Men’s Champion John Haddow (Cowaramup), whose emotional Australian Title victory in 2025 became one of the standout moments of the national championships.
Long-range forecasts point to a mix of conditions across the event window at Parry’s Beach. Event organisers will look to make the most of the conditions, with finals set to wrap up over the weekend.
“Denmark has always been a special stop on the Surfing WA calendar and the longboarding community really embraces the spirit of the region,” said Surfing WA Regional Operations Manager Kim Clift.
“We’ve got competitors travelling from all corners of the state to be here this weekend, from juniors chasing their first state title through to legends of the sport who have been part of the WA surfing community for decades. The level of talent across every division is incredible and we’re looking forward to another great weekend of longboarding down south.”
Denmark is one of the longest road trips on the Surfing WA events calendar. Surfing WA reminds all competitors and travelling surfers of the dangers of sending a text message or using a mobile phone while behind the wheel, Ditch the distraction and remember #NoTxtNoWrecks.
