Geraldton’s Batavia Coast is set to host the third and final stop of the 2025 WA Junior Surfing Titles, presented by Think Mental Health this weekend, as more than 80 of WA’s top junior surfers prepare to battle it out for state glory and a coveted spot representing WA at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula later this year.
Aged between 8 and 17, competitors will travel from across the state to compete in a high-stakes finish to the series, with four state titles still up for grabs. Many of WA’s top surfers, including Taj Burrow, Jack Robinson, Claire Bevilacqua, Jacob Willcox and Bronte Macaulay, first made their mark at the WA Junior Surfing Titles before going on to compete on the world stage.
After events in Margaret River in February and Trigg Beach in June, the series finale will play out across the weekend at Flat Rocks, south of Geraldton. Surfers will compete across a range of age divisions including Under-18 Junior Girls and Boys, Under-16 Cadet Girls and Boys, Under-14 Grommet Girls and Boys, and Under-12 Micro-Grom Girls and Boys.
Among the top contenders is Maverick Wilson, fresh from strong performances at the Krui Pro and Nias Pro WSL Qualifying Series events. Many competitors have also sharpened their skills at the Occy Grom Comp and Soundboks Oz Grom Open on the east coast and will arrive in Geraldton ready to perform.
The Mid-West will be proudly represented by a strong local crew including Callum Sojan, Kerby Morris, Leon Plummer and Taj Miles in the Under-18 Boys, Cruz Macdonald and Sonny Miles in the Under-16 Boys, Edel Rodden and Kalani Catto in the Under-18 Girls, and Mahlee Finney in the Under-12 Girls.
Surfing WA’s high-performance coaching team, including Ian (Wooly) Macpherson, Paul Lipscombe and Emma Cattlin, will be on site to provide tailored coaching, mentoring and video analysis to support the next generation of WA surfers.
“Geraldton is an ideal surfing destination at this time of year,” said Surfing WA Regional Manager Kim Clift. “We’ve got some great conditions lining up to start the event, and it’s exciting to see who will join Luna Thomas, Kyuss Rimmer, Ily Fraser and Olive Hardy as our 2025 State Champions.”
Competition will get underway on Friday at Flat Rocks, with a mix of conditions expected across the event window. Event organisers will look to make the most of the available swell and weather, with finals set to wrap up over the weekend.
