TRIGG BEACH, WA/AUS (Monday 25th May 2026), After a long wait and a weather-enforced postponement back in March, the 2026 Corsaire Aviation King of the Point, presented by SafeStyle, returned in style over the weekend, delivering three days of offshore winds, sunny skies and fun, contestable surf at Trigg Point.
While the waves may have lacked a little size, they offered no shortage of opportunity, with competitors from as far north as Exmouth and as far south as Margaret River converging on Perth’s most iconic point break to battle for crowns, cash, prestige and a coveted pathway into next year’s WA Trials for the WSL Margaret River Pro.
Taking top honours in the King of the Point division, Margaret River’s Jack Mitchell delivered a commanding performance, posting a two-wave combined total of 16.10 (out of a possible 20) to defeat Cyrus Cox (Margaret River), who finished runner-up with 13.36.
Mitchell’s victory earns him a wildcard into the 2027 World Surf League WA Trials, placing him one step closer to competing on surfing’s biggest stage when the Margaret River Pro returns next year.
Having surfed in this year’s Trials event, the Margaret River standout reflected positively on the experience.
“It was a sick event, got a few heats in, yeah really grateful to get back in it and give it another crack,” said Mitchell.
Margaret River sisters Olive and Willow Hardy faced off in the Queen of the Point final, adding another memorable chapter to the Hardy family rivalry.
Olive Hardy, the reigning 2026 WA Open Women’s State Champion and Under-18 Girls State Champion, produced a standout performance to post a winning total of 15.17, while Willow Hardy finished runner-up on 10.36.
“Both of us made double finals, so it was pretty much best-case scenario,” said Olive. “But then when it actually comes to the heat, it’s so hard to compete against each other, because we’re like best friends in and out of the water.”
Hardy’s victory earns her equal prize money and a coveted wildcard into the 2027 World Surf League WA Trials, after already making a deep run into the semi-finals of this year’s event.
In the Over-40 Lord of the Point division, Luke Campbell (Scarborough) reminded everyone why he remains one of the most respected surfers in WA, posting an impressive 16.24 to take victory.
A multiple-time King of the Point champion and last year’s Open Men’s runner-up, Campbell’s experience and connection to Trigg Point were on full display throughout the event.
“Yeah stoked, so good seeing such a good turnout,” said Campbell. “A few young divisions with the girls added, which is great. So yeah I’ve been inspired watching all the kids rip. It’s been good.”
“I just love it. It’s so good. And yeah, there’s really good community here.”
Paul Patterson (Perth) continued his own long-standing history with the event, claiming the Duke of the Point (Over-50 Men) title with a polished performance featuring a 7.00 and 8.17 for a combined total of 15.17.
“The weather gods weren’t too good to us today so a bit of patience required,” said Patterson. “But we waited for the good ones and we were pretty lucky, Trigg’s always got something hasn’t it.”
The Under-21 Princess of the Point division delivered one of the tightest finals of the weekend, with Ruby Berry(Margaret River) edging out Willow Hardy (Margaret River), Olive Hardy (Margaret River) and Grace Cook(Cowaramup) in an incredibly close showdown.
Berry, last year’s Queen of the Point champion, posted a winning total of 13.80, taking victory by just 0.46 points.
In the Under-21 Prince of the Point division, defending King of the Point champion and current 2026 WA Open Men’s State Champion Macklin Flynn (Cowaramup) proved once again why he’s considered one of WA’s top young surfers.
Flynn posted a winning total of 15.17 to defeat Renan Pascucci (North Beach), Jake Scott (Swanbourne) andAce Flynn (Cowaramup) in a stacked Under-21 Boys final.
Oscar Blackburn (Yallingup) captured the Under-16 Jester of the Point title in dramatic fashion, landing a 7.10 moments before the buzzer to secure victory with a combined total of 12.97.
“I knew I only needed, like a, high six maybe,” said Blackburn. “So I just needed to get a good wave, couple of turns in and it did the job.”
The newly introduced Maiden of the Point division for Under-16 Girls proved an exciting addition to the event, with Ily Fraser (Margaret River) taking the inaugural crown with a winning total of 13.60.
Fraser overcame Summer Barkhuizen (Eglinton), Jessica Quayle (Geraldton) and Poppy Vernon (Wembley Downs) in a strong showcase of WA’s next generation of female surfing talent.
Ace Flynn (Cowaramup) also claimed the West Coast Suspensions Wave of the Weekend award thanks to an excellent 9.10 ride in the semi-finals of the Open Men’s division.
Away from the main event, surfers and spectators packed the shoreline for the inaugural SafeStyle Expression Session, with big airs, heavy wipeouts and plenty of personality in the fading afternoon conditions.
Macklin Flynn (Cowaramup) claimed Best Air, Steve Crew (Greenwood) took out Best Wipeout, Okie Fraser (Margaret River) earned the Never Been Seen Before award, while Ace Flynn (Cowaramup) and Summer Barkhuizen (Eglinton) claimed Male and Female Steeze respectively.
Contest Director, Pete Carroll, praised the resilience of competitors and the atmosphere that defined the weekend.
“After having to postpone earlier in the year, it was unreal to finally get this event underway and see Trigg Point come alive again,” said Carrol. “The conditions might not have been huge, but there were plenty of opportunities and the level of surfing across all divisions was incredible.”
“It’s been awesome seeing competitors travel from all corners of WA to be part of this event and the community vibe across the three days was something really special.”
