The picturesque shores of Margaret River are set to transform into the ultimate battleground for surf supremacy, as the 2024 West Coast Suspensions WA Surf Masters Championships presented by Think Mental Health, prepares for a start on Friday.
The event will provide an epic clash of generations, as seasoned wave warriors and fresh-faced talents face off in a heart-pounding shortboard showdown that promises to deliver non-stop action, with a total of 12 divisions to be contested.
As the gateway to the Australian Surfing Championships, this event provides the opportunity to secure a spot among the nation’s elite wave riders with the chance to represent Western Australia against the best of the best later this year.
But that’s not all – thanks to the Think Mental Health Pathway to the Pro initiative, the Open Men’s and Open Women’s champions will be awarded positions to compete at the Think Mental Health WA Local Trials, a crucial stepping stone towards the prestigious World Surf League Margaret River Pro in April.
“It’s going to be really cool to see multiple generations of WA surfers competing alongside each other,” Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks. “This event will bring together WA surfing pioneers, as well as the young talent that will push our sport forward long into the future.”
Finn Cox (Margaret River) and Claire Bevilacqua (Yallingup) will return to defend their Open Men’s and Women’s State Titles from 2023, leading a strong contingent of south-west surfers who will be hungry for success.
Competitors from Geraldton in the north, Esperance in the south, and everywhere in between are set to showcase their skills in Margaret River, with divisions spanning from Under-21’s through to Over-65’s.
With a forecast that promises challenging conditions and pulse-pounding waves, the stage is set for an unforgettable spectacle, with Gas Bay the likely event location across the three days of competition.
Heats will commence from 7:30am on Friday, with finals scheduled for Sunday, every moment will be a thrill ride you won’t want to miss.
